New Students Orientation Libguide: Library Facilities

Library Policies

The Food & Drink Policy varies on different areas within the law library.

No food or drink is allowed in the following areas (Food & Drink Free Zones):

  • Computer labs
  • Computer terminals
  • Anywhere there is library electronic equipment including printers, scanners, copiers, computers, and microfiche readers

For other places, drink containers that have lids, tops, or caps are allowed. You can also bring snack type food into the library provided that it won't be a disturbance to other people. Please be respectful to your fellow students and clean up the area afterwards. You can also find the complete library policies on Food & Drink on our website.

Please keep the library a quiet and professional environment, conducive to study and research. Keep your phones on mute and do not have phone conversations inside the library.

Study Spaces

Carrels and In-House Circulation

Carrels are open to anyone on a first come, first-served basis. Currently enrolled Law Students may check out library materials to a carrel. This is known as In-House Circulation. If you wish to check out materials to a carrel, note the carrel number and take the materials you want to check out to the Circulation Desk. Any library material not properly checked out to a carrel will be removed on a regular basis. Books checked out to an individual patron and not to the carrel should not be left unattended in a carrel. For detailed Carrel Usage and In-House Circulation Policy, please click HERE

Group Study Rooms

Study rooms are available on the ground through third floors of the library. Law student study groups have priority for study rooms. A select number of study rooms may be reserved up to one week in advance. Only law students may reserve study rooms. To make and change reservations, go to the Portal (MyUTLAW), click the "Study Room" tile under the Library pane. Rooms may be reserved for up to three hours, and a second student's email is required for reservation.

Standing Desks

Standing desks are now available in the law library on a first come, first served basis. You can find them on each floor of the library except the ground floor. Please do not leave valuable items there.

Print, Copy and Scan

To print

All law students get up to 1500 pages of free printing each academic year. To print, you can use the computers in the College of Law Computing labs in Rooms 14 and 15 on the ground floor of the Law Library. Wireless and remote print services are also available. The detailed instructions on how to print from your own computer can be found HERE

To make copies

The library has three copiers available for law student use. These copiers are located on the third floor near the elevator, in the rear corner of the Reserve Reading Room, and in the alcove next to the interior stairwell on the first floor. For some of these copiers, you may use your All Star funds on your Vol Card to make copies. You can also purchase a copy card from the black vending machine located behind the gold record display case on the first floor.

To scan

You can use the copiers to scan documents as well. Scanned documents can be sent via emails or saved directly to a USB driver. Using the scanner is free to all patrons.

Something Other Than Books

We are a law library, but books are not the only thing we have here! Here are something you might be interested in borrowing from us.

You will be responsible for returning your locker key by the end of the academic year. Information about the check out procedures will be distributed in the beginning of fall semester.
