Resources for Instructors: Polling Tools

Poll Everywhere is a web-based software that allows audience members/students to respond to polls and surveys from their cell phones or laptops during a class or presentation, and have the results tabulated in real time on a screen at the front of the room. It can perform similar pedagogic functions as our old “clickers” but it can also do much more. Instructors can create multiple kinds of polls (multiple-choice, open-ended, Q&A, Brainstorming, clickable image polls, and more) and easily integrate them in their PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides presentations. Qualtrics is a survey software provided to all faculty at the University of Tennessee. It can also be used as a powerful tool for quiz creation. On-site training is offered by main campus OIT for those faculty interested in harnessing this intuitive, easy-to-use tool. UT faculty will need to create an account in the Qualtrics system for full access.

Kahoot! allows instructors to create fun learning games in minutes. Engage students through the use of videos, images and diagrams and allow them to compete against their classmates while learning. Kahoot! requires zero setup on the part of the student and is an effective way to deepen pedagogical impact.

Every TWEN course site allows instructors to create Customized Polls that students can complete before, during or after class. Instructors can also create InstaPolls that can be administered orally during class. After posing their question to students, they will be allowed to vote and the results will be displayed in bar or pie graph form. . The instructors guide to TWEN can be found here.
